AdeleAdkins was brought up by a single mom in various working-class neighborhoods of London. She loved to sing popular music of the present as a child , and was proficient at playing the guitar and clarinet. She came across Etta who was a mid-century Rhythm-and blues singer, in her teens, and started to consider a career as musician. As she learned in a secondary school of performing arts, which was funded by the government, a friend started posting songs Adkins had written on Myspace. Her music eventually caught the attention of record companies and in 2006, just a few months after graduation she signed a deal with XL Recordings.
